A Pisa, presso la nostra sede, Domus Comeliana, si tiene dal 27 settembre prossimo al giorno 6 ottobre una mostra di opere della collezione della Institutio Santoriana – Fondazione Comel e di opere dell’artista statunitense Linda Karshan dal titolo

The exhibition displays for the first time a significant body of works from the collection of the Founder of the Institutio Santoriana – Fondazione Comel, Professor Marcello Comel (1902-1995).

Best known for his life-long commitment to medicine and medical humanities, Comel emerges as a visionary Maecenas and a distinguished collector. Ranging from the late 19th well into the 20th centuries, a fine selection of paintings and works on paper will cast brighter light on Comel as a humanist and indefatigable advocate of the good and the beauty through the fine arts.

Masterpieces shortlisted for this momentous event include a portrait by Gerolamo Induno, arresting landscapes by Moses Levy, Giovanni Lomi and Artuso Tosi, works on paper by Telemaco Signorini, Mario Sironi, Filippo de Pisis and Renato Guttuso, and an array of works by Comel’s protégée Carlo Sbisà.

Comel’s vision and legacy, pursued by the Institutio Santoriana of which Comel acted as first President, inspired the history of the Foundation up until our own times and has been recently shared by prominent American artist Linda Karshan. To her manifold gift to the Domus Comeliana are devoted the last two sections of the exhibition, featuring works on paper and artist’s books that form the core of this gift. A testament to contemporary humanist and philanthropy, these magnificent works – including The Orlo and The Orlo Reversed, Shell, and the volume Footfalls – also demonstrate the relevance of Comel’s collection in the present, and its growing capacity and impact upon the future generations.

 

Questa mostra presenta per la prima volta un importante nucleo di opere d’arte provenienti dalla collezione del professor Marcello Comel (1902-1995), fondatore della Institutio Santoriana – Fondazione Comel di Pisa.

Personalità celebre per l’infaticabile, pionieristico impegno nel panorama internazionale della medicina e della ricerca dedicata all’umanesimo medico, Comel emerge quale mecenate illuminato e raffinato collezionista. I dipinti e le opera su carta presentati dalla rassegna, di artisti italiani dei secoli XIX e XX, restituiscono l’inedito ritratto di Comel umanista, filantropo e strenuo sostenitore delle belle arti.

Tra i capolavori in mostra si annoverano un ritratto di Gerolamo Induno, dipinti di paesaggio di Moses Levy, Giovanni Lomi e Artuso Tosi, opere su carta di Telemaco Signorini, Mario Sironi, Filippo de Pisis e Renato Guttuso, nonché un’importante selezione di pitture di Carlo Sbisà, protégée di Marcello Comel.
